The glowing glassine portal shimmers open before you. Its fragile iridescent surface seems to speak of innocence and tragedy. You pass through it and it feels like liquid, enveloping you then closing down, holding you in its grasp. You hear a rushing roaring sound, like cascading water off in the distance. You hear other sounds too: voices wailing, locks turning and clocks ticking.

Strange discordant melodies being picked out on a piano drift through the air, but you pass by them all. The rushing sound grows louder and louder until you step through again, like exiting a bubble of water, and find yourself on solid ground.

You are facing a pool beside a waterfall. The noise of it fills your ears and it spatters you left side with warm spray. You step out of range of the waterfall and look around you. You are facing a churning pool, which drains into a rushing stream off to your right that cuts violently through the placid, tree-strewn landscape. You feel cool, plush grass beneath your bare feet and look down to see it dappled with tiny white flowers. There is a deliciously beautiful aroma permeating the air, and you wonder if it's caused by the small flowers. In front of you, across the pool, is a thick forest and back a ways into the forest some kind of domed structure is peeking up above the trees. To your left, next to the waterfall, the rock face is rough and uneven, easily climbable if you stay away from the slick wet spots. You take a step, and your step is remarkably light--you seem to float for a moment before touching the ground, almost as if gravity does not quite have a grip on you. Behind you, more trees pepper the landscape, right up the edge of a sudden cliff drop, root systems extending precariously into the void, looking as if they will spill right over like the water down the waterfall.

The whole place is so tranquil and refreshing, like a soft pillow and a splash in the face at the same time. You throw your head back into the warm summery air and stare into the deepening purple sky. The bright blue sunlight is fading, setting over the waterfall.

You don't know where you are or who you are or why, but this place just feels right--like home--like it's where you should and always will belong. But your curiosity is waxing and there's so much to explore. On the other hand, the night is coming.

  • Curl up right where you are and go to sleep
  • Go swimming in the pool
  • Climb the rock after the setting sun
  • Investigate the woods behind you
  • Follow the stream off to your right
  • Cross the stream and strike out for that strange dome
  • Look more closely at the flowers
